There are 2 main types of fits when discussing your garage door requirements. Both types are outlined below to help you better understand the differences and benefits associated with each of them.

Face Fit

This type of fix is whereby the garage door is mounted inside the garage onto the internal part of the garage (usually block work in new type cavity wall garages or brick piers in some instances). If you imagine standing inside your garage and looking outward, it is to the wall closest to you the door will be fixed.

Face fixing is the best type of fixing method as this eliminates the need of a frame in the reveal part of the doorway. This also eliminates the need for a facia board/panel required when fixing in the reveal.

This type of installation also maximises the width of the opening allowing movement in and out of the garage easier, especially if your garage is narrow and used to store a vehicle. Adequate fixing substrate is also usually easier to find when fixing from the inside, this is because of the inclusion of solid brick or block piers on many garages.

All Ryterna sectional garage doors are supplied with full weather seals on the top, bottom, sides and edge of each panel. This ensures an almost air tight seal and also helps to conceal and uneven floor or threshold which is a common problem in many garages.

To conclude face fixing has many benefits especially the considerable savings when eliminating the need for a frame and facia panel.

Reveal Fit (AKA Flush Fit)

Another common type of installation is something referred to as either reveal fir or flush fit. This is where the door is situation in-between the brickwork of the opening (brick to brick). Imagine standing directly in the opening of your garage door and placing both arms up away from your sides, this is the location in which (a) your frame is installed and (b) the door is installed (behind the frame).

In this instance, it will be necessary to install a frame to allow the door to be mounted. The frame is installed first and the door then sits behind the frame. A very simple process and one which does have an aesthetic advantage over the face fit. As many garage doors are available with bespoke finishes and colours, this allows you to include a frame and surround to match the door, this offers a more concealed look and can be to the taste of many styles of homes. As the door is installed in-between the reveal it is also necessary to install a facia panel, again facia panels can be supplied to match the door and offer a concealed look to compliment your garage door.
